Yudi here,
I want to share something really cool that can help you discover job opportunities in a way you might not have thought of before—It's Google dorking.
Google dorking is all about using advanced search techniques to find specific information on the web. While it's often used for security purposes, it could be an amazing tool for anyone looking for a job.
With a few clever search commands, you can find job postings that aren’t always visible on popular job boards like Indeed or LinkedIn.
1. Use Specific Search Operators:
site:websitename.com: This command helps you search within a specific website. For example, "site:linkedin.com Data Analyst job" will search for job-related posts on LinkedIn.
intitle:"job title": Use this to find job postings with specific titles. For instance, if you’re looking for a supply chain internship, you can search for intitle:"supply chain intern".
Saurabh, one of my podcast guests used the google dorking & found a job at Intel. Watch the podcast here.
Below is the example:
filetype:pdf: This command helps you locate files in PDF format.
If you’re looking for guide, job descriptions or resumes, you can use filetype:pdf resume job role
Here are some product manager resources for you to refer.
Before I share all the other cool hacks and insights, I want to emphasize that you will learn these techniques by taking our ultimate job-hunting course.
I learned the technique below from my course community students & my podcast guest, who landed great internships.
2. Combine Your Search Queries
Customizing your search queries can get you better results. Here're some tools for your job search.
For example, if you’re a software developer looking for opportunities in Austin, you could use: site:indeed.com "software developer" "Austin"
This query will pull up relevant job listings directly from Indeed.
3. Combine Dorks for Better Results
You can mix and match commands by adding Boolean operators to refine your searches further.
Try using below command:
This search will help you find data analyst internships listed on Glassdoor in US. Find few resources here.
4. Know Company-Specific Opportunities
Looking for a position at a particular company? Use Google dorking to search directly on their website.
For example: site:netflix.com "careers" AND "Software Developer"
Above query will lead you to Apple’s job openings that may not be advertised elsewhere.
